Our three lovely apartments - Park Apartment (2-bed/ sleeps 3 max); Garden Apartment (1-bed/sleeps 2 max); and Balfour Apartment (2-bed/sleeps 4 max) - are uniquely located in lovely parkland, offering guests peace and tranquillity, yet it is only a 15-minute stroll, or 5-minutes by bus to Edinburgh's city centre and all the main attractions.
Guests in the Park Apartment have exclusive use of the stunning Palladian staircase entrance, at the top of which are double oak doors and a small south-facing seating area overlooking the park - a wonderful suntrap. The Garden Apartment is sited at garden level and has a private seating area to the front, overlooking the park. Whilst the Balfour Apartment occupies a commanding second-floor postion, offering dramatic views of the park and Edinburgh skyline.
All three apartments are beautifully furnished, impeccably clean and extremely comfortable, and offer FREE parking in a private car park, FREE hgh-speed Broadband Wi-Fi, and a private garden with secluded seating areas.
The Park Apartment (1st floor): fully-equipped kitchen; spacious living-room, witn oak flooring and Persian rug, which has a designated dining area and lovely recessed window-seat with delightful views of the park; fully carpeted double and single bedrooms - both with park views; and, modern, fully tiled bathroom with spacious, curved bath (shower over bath/glass shower-screen), heated towel rail and shaver point.
The Garden Apartment (ground floor): fully carpeted and beautifully sunny double bedroom with garden/park views; living-room with garden/park views; modern, fully-tiled bathroom with bath (shower over bath/glass shower screen), heated towel rail and shaver point; and, lovely (fully equipped) cottage-style kitchen.
The Balfour Apartment (2nd floor): 2 spacious and sunny double bedrooms - both fully carpeted(one with super king-sized bed that can be separated into twins); large living-room with three windows - two with recessed window-seats offering panoramic views of the park and Edinburgh skyline; modern, fully-tiled bathroom with spacious walk-in shower cabinet, WC, wash-hand basin with lit mirror & shaver point above, full length mirror, bath mats, toiletry dispensers, and full length heated towel-rail; and, fully equipped kitchen with all the utensils and facilities you could wish for, and more.
All apartments offer: Free Broadband Wi-Fi access and private parking, adjustable heating in all rooms, overhead dimmer lighting, touch-activated bedside lamps, flat-screen TV (Digital TV), DVD, CD-Player, Extensive DVD library, Digital Radio, ironing facilities, full kitchen - oven/hob, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, freezer, clothes washer/dryer, coffee-maker.
Pilrig House has a notable and fascinating history. It was owned by the same family for hundreds of years - the Balfours. Robert Louis (Balfour) Stevenson - one of Scotland's most acclaimed authors - often visited his family & played in the gardens here as a child. He mentions Pilrig House in many of his books and letters, including Kidnapped, and Catriona.
