Glengarriff Lodge was originally built by the Earls of Bantry as a retreat to nature. This luxury lodge is the ideal get away... Built on an island in the Glengarriff River and located on a 50 acre woodland estate, this property is a wonderfully secluded spot. The estate bounds the National Wildlife Reserve. The history of the lodge is rich - having hosted the like of Wordsworth and Thackery in its heyday. Come and enjoy a wonderful holiday in Glengarriff Lodge.... The Lodge is only 2Km from the beautiful village of Glengarriff with plenty of resaurants and pubs and music. Visit the Blue Loo pub at the end of the village if you are looking for an authentic pub. Kenmare town is 25 mins from the Lodge. Kenmare is one of Irelands best food towns with a huge number of great venues. It's well worth a visit - particularly on Wednesday which is market day. The market is a lively mixture of artisan food stalls, plants and bric a brac - ideal for browsing around on a sunny day. Garnish Island with its seal colony and Italian Gardens in a short boat ride away from the village and Ferries run to and fro regularly in season. The trip to Garnish is an ideal day out, the Gardens are amazing as Gelngarriff is famed for its subtropical microclimate. There is also a Martello tower from the Napoleonic era on the island which has been restored. Things to do: Walking - there's a network of beautiful walks through the hills and forrest to suit all walkers. Kayaking - there's a great eco kayaking tour of Bantry Bay. This includes lunch and can be tailored to the experienced seafarer to the novice. Horse Riding: There is horse riding available in the area. Sailing: There is a sailing school nearby which runs a variety of sailing courses to suit all ages.
