West Lane Cottage

St Mary the Virgin, Piddlehinton
West Lane Cottage Dorchester - St Mary the Virgin, Piddlehinton - Thomas Thelluson Carter was presented to the Rectory of Piddlehinton in 1838. When neighbouring clergy heard that he neither shot nor fished they said “What will he find to do?”

He was not a poular man and it is said that the memorial window must have been installed by his famly for none of the village people would have wanted to remember the man who removed the Church Gallery, disbanded the choir, and worst of all, did away with an old tradition whereby the Rector gave each parishioner a mince pie and a quart of ale each Christmas.

He left the living in 1844 claiming not to like the climate.
