Our three lovely apartments - The Park Apartment (2-bed/ sleeps 4 max; the Garden Apartment (1 -bed/sleeps 3 max); and Balfour Apartment (2-bed/sleeps 4 max) - are uniquely located in lovely parkland, offering guests peace and tranquillity, yet it is only a 15-minute stroll, or 5-minutes by bus to Edinburgh's city centre and all the main attractions.
Guests in the Park Apartment have exclusive use of the stunning Palladian staircase entrance, at the top of which are double oak doors and a small south-facing seating area overlooking the park - a wonderful suntrap. The Garden Apartment is sited at garden level and has a private seating area to the front, overlooking the park. Whilst the Balfour Apartment occupies a commanding second-floor postion, offering dramatic views of the park and Edinburgh skyline.
All three apartments are beautifully furnished, impeccably clean and extremely comfortable, and offer private gardens, which include a lovely Regency garden with secluded seating areas. And, all have a (free) allocated car-parking space in a private car park.
The Park Apartment: fully-equipped kitchen; spacious living-room, which has a designated dining area and lovely recessed window-seat with delightful views of the park; double and single bedrooms - both with park views;
and, bathroom (with shower over the bath).
The Garden Apartment: beautiful double bedroom with garden/park views; living-room with park views; modern bathroom (with shower over the bath); and, cottage-style kitchen.
The Balfour Apartment: 2 double bedrooms (one with super king-sized bed that can be spit into twins); spacious living-room with double windows and recessed window-seats offering great park views; modern bathroom (with shower over the bath); and, fully equipped kitchen.
All apartments offer: Broadband Wi-Fi access, double fold-out sofa-beds (and a travel cot is available, on request), flat-screen TV (Digital TV), DVD, CD-player, video, and digital radio.
Pilrig House has a notable and fascinating history. It was owned by the same family for hundreds of years - the Balfours. Robert Louis (Balfour) Stevenson - one of Scotland's most acclaimed authors - often visited as a child, and played in the gardens here. He mentions Pilrig House in many of his books and letters, including Kidnapped, and Catriona.
