The Bassenthwaite Sailing Club is one mile, where you can hire or launch a sailing dinghy. The lake is excellent for windsurfing and canoeing or just relax on the lake shore enjoying the sun or a picnic. Herdwick Croft is within 3 miles of Skiddaw and close to the Northern fell of Binsey so walkers have a good selection of walks on their doorstep.
