Situated within the small hamlet of Errogie in Stratherrick, with beautiful views over loch and mountain, the Old Schoolhouse has a wonderful atmosphere and is a perfect base to explore this little know strath high above the southern shores of Loch Ness. Built in 1878 and a teacher's house for over 100 years, the Old Schoolhouse adjoins the Old School, now home to the owners.
The area is rich in history and wildlife: from hut circles and cairns to Culloden and castles; while pine marten, deer, red squirrels, osprey, Slavonian grebes and divers are all seen nearby.
With miles of tracks, quiet roads and forest, or the open solitude of hill and moor, there is plenty of scope for walking or cycling straight from the house. Or why not fish from the loch shore, or visit Loch Ness via the ancient Pass of Inverfarigaig.
Stratherrick also makes for a good base to explore further afield: the sands of the Moray Coast, the Cairngorms National Park, the Caledonian Forests of Glen Affric, Skye and the west...whilst keeping Inverness in easy reach for shopping, theatre and leisure facilities.
The Old Schoolhouse has been simply and tastefully modernised to a high standard, and retains much of its original character. Accommodation comprises comfortable lounge with wood-burning stove (please note:there is no TV reception but a large selection of DVDs, books and games is available), well equipped kitchen/dining area, double bedroom with victorian fireplace and beautiful views, twin bedroom, bathroom with toilet, bath and shower. Large garden, with garden furniture plus barbecue.
We can do short breaks, and be flexible, are eco and family friendly.. but sorry no smokers and no pets! |
