Due to open early September 2009, 'Water's Edge' enjoys any idyllic position overlooking the harbour at Garlieston - a picturesque fishing village, some 10 miles from Wigtown (National Booktown) in the delightful Galloway Machars. Part of an exclusive new development, the cottage is furnished to a high standard, with one twin and one double (ensuite) bedroom on the first floor, and a large and airy open-plan living area downstairs, with a good-sized, well-equipped kitchen. You can see the sea from most windows, but the view is particularly delightful from the balcony off the master bedroom.
The surrounding area is rich in history and wildlife, and is a walker's paradise. A stone's throw from the cottage is a good beach - part shingle, part sand - with views across Wigtown Bay to the Galloway Hills, leading to delightful coastal pathways, from where you can often see seals basking on the rocks of Rigg Bay. A short drive away is Wigtown (National Booktown), Whithorn with its ancient priory, dedicated to St Ninian (Scotland's first Christian Bishop), and a number of delightful small coastal villages and beaches. A little further afield is Newton Stewart (gateway to the Galloway Hills), Port Patrick and the Mull of Galloway (most southerly point in Scotland). The quaint Artist's Town of Kirkcudbright and the surrounding National Scenic Area of the Stewartry Coast is also within easy reach.
The owners, Joseph and Anthony Duncalf, personally ensure the property is maintained to a high standard, along with our other properties - Forest Edge, Dalbeattie and Croft House, Wigtown - which have proved much appreciated with visitors over the past two years, many of wnom are now returning for a second (or even third!) stay.
