| Virginia Cottage is a charming, Grade II listed, detached thatched cottage which is the family home of the current owners and is, therefore, equipped to a very high standard, retaining many of its original features and charm. The property, which is situated in the heart of a conservation area, dates back to 1676!
The cottage, which has wonderful south facing enclosed gardens, is set in a quiet lane tucked away in the oldest part of the village of Carisbrooke. It is located near the old ford which leads to the historic Norman Carisbrooke Castle and enjoys fine views of the castle from the first floor bedrooms. The property is featured in many post cards and local paintings as it used to be the village tea gardens serving visitors to the castle.
Virginia Cottage is a couple of minutes walk from the village centre with its small shops, post office, Norman church, celebrated Valentino’s Italian Restaurant and the popular Eight Bells family public house with its large gardens and play area bordering the local mill pond. The Tennyson Trail which leads to Alum Bay begins nearby for those who enjoy walking or cycling and numerous other country walks can be joined from Carisbrooke.
Virginia Cottage’s central location on the Island, close to the Island’s county town of Newport, makes it an ideal base from which to explore all the wonderful attractions, activities, walks and beaches the Isle of Wight has to offer. A convenient regular bus service passes through Carisbrooke village.
