    These cottages offer a pleasant retreat whether you seek to discover the delightful Sussex Downs or head to the bright lights of Brighton.

    New Hall, with 3½ acres of peaceful informal gardens, sits on the outskirts of the hamlet of Small Dole, south of Henfield.

    They are ideally suited for visiting the South Downs National Park, and walking the South Downs Way whilst being only 15 minutes drive to the Sussex coast and the city of Brighton and Hove.

    On the borders of the South Downs National Park, the locality has many in footpaths including the South Downs Way and Downslink bridleway. Within a mile are the River Adur (fishing permit available), the village pub, post office and shop.

    Henfield is a pleasant village with good shopping and traditional inns offering excellent food. It is well suited to access Hickstead and Ardingly showgrounds.

    Brighton is a vibrant city offering regular festivals and traditional seaside entertainments. Why not shop in The Lanes, lunch at the Marina, visit the spectacular Royal Pavilion, or spend the evening at one of Brighton’s many venues?

    Worthing has excellent shops and beaches. It hosts the annual birdman contest on its award winning pier. Why not explore historic Lewes, see the opera at Glyndebourne or visit the Roman city of Chichester and its acclaimed Festival Theatre? Numerous local historic properties and gardens await exploration, including Wakehurst Place, Borde Hill, and Arundel Castle.

    Open all year, the comfortably furnished and self contained cottages are attached to New Hall. Garden Cottage forms the north wing. Dairymaids’ Cottage forms the south wing above the dairy.

    Garden Cottage: The large lounge opens onto the walled garden; dining room; fitted kitchen; bedroom with double bed and en-suite bathroom. Two folding beds are available downstairs. Sleeps 2-4

    Dairymaid’s cottage: Internal steep stairs provide access to the first floor with lounge; fitted kitchen; bathroom; bedroom 1 with double bed; bedroom 2 with two single beds; and, bedroom 3 (downstairs; one single bed). Sleeps 5

    Garden cottage sitting room - This cottage has a separate kitchen and dining room. The large Jacobean fireplace is impressive but sadly is not for use. On the plus side, central heating is included. The huge sitting room opens directly into the delightful walled gardens.

    New Hall in winter - Open all the year round for short breaks as well as longer holidays. The New Hall cottages make a cosy retreat in rural Sussex. Fully carpeted throughout, with plentiful hot water, luxury fluffy towels, and central heating allow you to put up your feet and relax after a pleasant walk along New Hall’s private lane leading onto the Downslink bridle path or a stroll from the village pub. (We don't often get snow like this... )
    Walled gardens in summer - The walls to this garden are also Grade II listed. The garden is secure and is great for both children and dogs. A croquet set is available for guests to use (moles permitting!).
