From the North
Exit the M74 at junction 15.
At the bottom of the slip road take the 3rd exit off the round about signposted A701 Dumfries. At the 2nd round about take the 1st exit continuing on the A701. Stay on the A 701 for approximately 18 miles, through Heath Hall and past the Esso Garage on your left.
At the next roundabout take the 2nd exit for approximately 1 mile until you reach the roundabout junction with the A75.
Take the 3rd exit off the round about onto the A75. Stay on the A75 for approximately 3 miles going straight ahead at the next 3 roundabouts until you reach the Cardenbridge roundabout. At this roundabout take the 1st exit signposted the A711 Colvend Coast / Dalbeattie.
Stay on the A711 for approx 18 miles going through the village of Beeswing until you reach Dalbeattie.
Go through Dalbeattie and on exiting the town take a left turn onto the A710 signposted Colvend Coast / Sandyhills.
Stay on the A710 for approx 6 miles through the village of Colvend until you reach Sandyhills. Continue through the hamlet. You will see the beach on the right and Craigbittern is on your left as you start to head up the hill out of the hamlet.
From the South
After junction 44 on the M6 continue on the M6 until it merges with the M74 which is approximately 6 miles north of junction 44.
The 1st junction on the M74 after you have crossed the border sign is junction 22 signposted the A75 Dumfries. Exit the motorway at this junction.
Stay on the A75 for approx 21.5 miles until you reach a roundabout. At this round about take the 1st exit onto the A780 heading to Dumfries. Continue on the A780 for approx 1.5 miles going straight across at the roundabouts the A780 (Annan Road) becomes the A756 (Brooms Road). Continue on the A756 for approximately 1.3 miles passing a Morrisons store on your right and then a Lidl store on your left. You will then go through 2 sets of traffic lights until you reach a T junction with the New Abbey Rd (A710).
Turn left on to the A710 New Abbey Road. You should stay on the A710 for approx 17 miles going through the villages of Isle Steps, New Abbey, Kirkbean, Mains Riddle until you then reach Sandyhills.
Once you reach the Sandyhills sign, you will come down a hill and you will see a castellated wall on your right. This is the wall to Craigbittern and the drive is on the right.
Proceed up the drive way and the entrance to the cottage is at the rear of the main house.
