|Set in the rural tranquility of the Somerset Levels, Westport Farm is an 8 acre smallholding. It is home to three generations of the Reid family as well as a motley assembly of geese, ducks, chickens, a micro-pig, a pair of soppy labradors, an over-indulged cat and occasional flocks of Poll Dorset sheep and herds of mixed beef cattle.
A combination of parkland, orchards and the Westport terminus of the now disused Langport - Westport canal, the farm attracts a range of wildlife residents and visitors which include a family of moorhens and another of squirrels, reclusive hares and badgers, a growing assortment of butterflies, both green and red spotted woodpeckers, kingfishers, herons, hawks, merlins and other birds of prey, as well as the occasional mink and weasel.
The recent establishment of three easy access self-catering holiday cottages in the farmís step-free clocktower building has resulted in the addition of an exotic mix of short-term human visitors from the UK and overseas, intent on experiencing the many attractions this glorious part of the West Country has to offer.
The farmís orchards, fruit cages and polytunnel provide the raw materials for our own delicious range of fruit juices, ciders, apple dust muesli, fruit purees and compotes, jams, chutneys and pickles. A colourful selection of eggs is contributed by our free range hens.
